In August 2016, US-based multinational auto maker Ford Motors’ subsidiary, Ford Smart Mobility, along with American Venture Capital firm Sequoia Capital, Empire Angel, and Nokia Growth Partners, pumped in $ 24 million into the first self-drive car rental company in India, Zoomcar. This was Zoomcar’s series B round of investment. The investment doubled the company’s finances and increased its car fleet to more than 2000. Ford's CEO, Mark Fields, expressed his bullish opinion about Zoomcar while taking an equity position, describing it as the largest car-sharing service in its league in India.
Zoomcar, pioneer of the exclusive self-driving car-rental concept, (a car without a driver/ Chauffer that the customers could drive by themselves) in India, had carved a niche for itself. This had subsequently, resulted in more than 20 copy models appearing in the market. Founded in 2012, Zoomcar had rolled out its services across 12 Indian cities by 2016 with a fleet of more than 2000 cars ranging from hatch-back models to luxury sedans......
